To understand user expectations, I reviewed both direct and indirect competitors:

  1. Book of the Month

  2. OwlCrate

  3. Champaca

  4. OurShelves (Kids-focused)

  5. Used Books Monthly

  6. Kindle Unlimited (indirect, digital-first alternative)

Key Insight: Most competitors either overwhelm users with choices or hide value behind multiple steps. This highlighted an opportunity to design a flow that is transparent yet playful.
